As Chelsea prepare to host Leicester City in our penultimate Premier League game of the season, we take a look at some fine league wins against the Foxes at the Bridge.
October 1997
For 87 minutes, Pegguy Arphexad repelled everything that Chelsea fired in his direction but Leicester’s reserve goalkeeper had no answer when Frank Leboeuf was teed up by Gianluca Vialli 30 yards from goal.
The French defender had seen his compatriot deny him twice from distance earlier in the game but he third effort left nothing to chance as he fired a right-footed thunderbolt into the top corner to secure a dramatic but deserved 1-0 victory.
August 2003
Having joined the Blues from Parma a few days earlier, Adrian Mutu had a debut to remember when he netted the winning goal against the Foxes in our home opener in 2003/04.
With the score level at 1-1 in the final minute of the first half, the Romanian fired a free-kick straight into the Leicester wall but the ball rebounded right back to him and he unleashed a fizzing low drive from 25 yards which arrowed past Ian Walker into the bottom corner.
August 2014
Relegated in 2004, Leicester didn’t return to the top flight for a decade but there was a sense of déjà vu when another newly signed Chelsea striker struck against them in our home opener in 2014/15.
Diego Costa had opened his Blues account in our 3-1 opening win at Burnley and the Brazilian made it two goals in two games when he broke the deadlock after 62 minutes, chesting down Branislav Ivanovic's deflected cross before despatching the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.
Eden Hazard added a second late on as we began the season with nine wins in an unbeaten 12-match run and went on to lift the Premier League title for the first time in five years.
October 2016
The Blues finished 10th and the Foxes won the title in 2015/16 but our match at the Bridge the following season set the tone for a remarkable change in fortunes.
After watching his side beaten 3-0 at Arsenal, Antonio Conte switched to a three-man defence for our 2-0 win at Hull which was followed by a resounding performance against the defending champions at the Bridge as goals by Diego Costa, Hazard and Victor Moses saw us cruise to a 3-0 victory.
It was the second in a run of 13 consecutive victories wins helped us to secure our second title in three seasons while Leicester eventually finished in 12th place.
May 2021
Leicester may have beaten the Blues in the FA Cup final last year a crucial league win a few days later saw us turn the table on the Foxes
Playing in front of 7,195 fans, the biggest crowd at the Bridge for 14 months, Antonio Rudiger gave us the lead early in the second half before a foul on Timo Werner resulted in a a penalty which was converted by Jorginho to put us two goals up.
Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back but we hung on for the three points which meant that we finished in the top four and secured Champions League qualification at Leicester’s expense.
