Matt Miazga is returning to his homeland, making a permanent switch to MLS side FC Cincinnati.

The 27-year-old defender has been a Chelsea player since January 2016 when he joined us from New York Red Bulls, although the majority of his playing action has been out on loan.

In that first half-season he made two appearances for our men’s first team, including in a 4-0 win at Aston Villa.

Miazga then played at Vitesse where he helped the Arnhem club win the Dutch Cup for the first time. He later played in France at Nantes before returning to England for a spell in the Championship with Reading where as at Vitesse, his loan stretched into a second season. During this time he was a team-mate of Christian Pulisic in the United States men’s national team as they finished runners-up in the Gold Cup.

2020/21 was spent in Belgium where he was a regular at Anderlecht and last season he was loaned to La Liga side Alaves.

We wish Matt well back in the MLS.
