Brazilians and football go hand in hand, especially when it comes to the beauty of scoring goals.

Joao Pedro certainly fits into that bracket. However, the forward was in no celebratory mood when we cauht up with him after Saturday's game, despite registering his highest goalscoring season in England with his early opener against Burnley.

The Blues were unable to hold onto that lead, conceding an injury-time leveller through Zian Flemming - after being earlier reduced to ten men following Wesley Fofana’s second yellow card for a foul on James Ward-Prowse – the man who set up Flemming with an inch-perfect corner delivery.

So when speaking to Joao post-match, he wasn’t best pleased to be reflecting on another game where we have dropped points from a winning position, despite being delighted to have added to his tally.

‘We are very frustrated with the result, and especially because we did exactly the same in the last [Premier League] game [against Leeds],’ our No.20 commented.

‘We did enough to win the game, but we couldn’t find the second goal that we needed. We need to find solutions in these types of games, because we need to earn points in the Premier League.

‘We need to win these types of games, and we are just very frustrated that we weren’t able to see the game out [from a winning position].

‘I think the red card made things difficult but we still had enough about us to get the win. Before the red card, we should have put the game to bed.

‘When you go to a man less, of course things get more difficult. I didn’t really see the incident too clearly, but we need to learn how to manage the game in those situations because, regardless of having a man less, we are Chelsea and these type of games at home we have to win.’

While frustrated with the end result, the Brazilian was delighted to add to his tally – his 14th in all competitions [not including last season’s Club World Cup win] since his summer switch from Brighton – and hinted at a ‘growing understanding’ with his Chelsea team-mates as the reason why.

‘Like I said, I’m always happy to score,’ added Joao. ‘It’s just frustrating when you don’t have the points to go with it.

‘But I’m very happy at Chelsea. The group understands how I like to play, and I feel very comfortable because I have a great understanding with my team-mates here.

‘Whenever I play, first of all, I always try and help my team-mates and then if I can score goals to help the side, then I’m very happy.

‘I was very pleased to score but it wasn’t enough and we’re frustrated we didn’t get the three points to go with the goal.’
