Maren Mjelde is determined to achieve further success with Chelsea after it was confirmed that the Norwegian has signed a one-year contract extension with the Blues.

The 33-year-old defender has played an integral part in our success since joining ahead of the Spring Series in 2017. In the time that has elapsed since, Mjelde has won 13 trophies in blue and played the protagonist in some memorable moments along the way.

She has a habit of stepping up on the European stage having scored decisive goals against Paris Saint-Germain in 2018/19 and Lyon last season, where we progressed to the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals on both occasions.

These epic encounters, alongside many other memorable games during her Chelsea career, have left a long-lasting on impression on Mjelde and the desire to go one step further in the Champions League next season is high on the agenda.

‘I love the Champions League and especially for Chelsea. We have had an amazing journey with a lot of cool games that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am hoping for that to happen next season as well.’

Mjelde helped us clinch a fourth-successive Women’s Super League title in May, which complemented a third-straight FA Cup triumph at Wembley. She has shown immense courage to overcome serious injury and is very clear about her motivations for next season.

‘The last couple of seasons have been a bit hard for me personally with getting back from injury but now, I feel like myself again. I know I am able to contribute to the team and to the club. My aim is to keep on working and do what I can to make the team as good as possible.’

Our Norwegian defender expressed her gratitude to the supporters for their unwavering dedication throughout the campaign, and expressed the squad’s desire to repay the faith of the fans with more silverware next season.

‘They have been amazing this year. We have heard them every game and we want to give everything we can back to them by winning games and trophies. We hope to continue this next year!’
