Moises Caicedo has deservedly earned a reputation as a Chelsea player capable of the spectacular!

The midfielder is a man of many talents but not one renowned for goalscoring, although he has struck three times this season. And when the Ecuadorian does find the net, it is usually pretty special.

After scoring against Liverpool on Saturday, the 23-year-old now has six Chelsea goals to his name, five of which have been scored from outside the penalty area.

And what is testament to his technical ability is the way in which they vary from one another.

Caicedo’s first Chelsea goal was, of course, that remarkable halfway line strike on the final day of the 2023/24 season against Bournemouth.

It capped the end of a debut campaign for Chelsea in which the Ecuador international had blossomed into a key figure for the Blues – and the strike was justifiably named our Goal of the Season by supporters.

Then came a wonderfully controlled volley at Old Trafford to earn us a point in the Premier League last November, before Caicedo crowned off our triumphant UEFA Conference League campaign with a low, arrowed strike from 20 yards in the final win over Real Betis.

This term, Moises already has three goals to his name. While his first, scored away to West Ham United, was from closer range, he still did well to keep an instinctive half-volleyed finish down as the ball arrived at speed.

Then, away to Brentford, Caicedo fired a rising drive from the edge of the box into the near post; it was a goal that blended power and precision.

He bettered that against Liverpool on Saturday. After collecting the ball 30 yards from goal, Caicedo was given time and space to advance and take aim. He unleashed a fierce strike that flew across goal and rose perfectly into the top corner of Giorgi Mamardashvili's net.

As we have now seen on several occasions, it was the perfect snapshot of Caicedo’s shooting ability!
