Moises Caicedo is fast earning a reputation as a player capable of the spectacular!
The midfielder is a man of many talents, but he is not renowned for his goalscoring exploits. However, when Caicedo does find the net, it is usually pretty special.
After netting against Brentford on Saturday, the 23-year-old now has five Chelsea goals to his name, four of which have been scored from outside the box.
And what is testament to his technical ability is the way in which they vary from one another.
Caicedo’s first Chelsea goal was, of course, that remarkable halfway line strike on the final day of the 2023/24 season against Bournemouth.
It capped the end of a debut campaign for Chelsea in which the Ecuador international had blossomed into a key figure for the Blues – and the strike was justifiably named our Goal of the Season by supporters.
Then came a wonderfully controlled volley at Old Trafford to earn us a point in the Premier League last November, before Caicedo crowned off our triumphant UEFA Conference League campaign with a low, arrowed strike from 20 yards in the final win over Real Betis.
This term, Moises already has two goals to his name. While his first, scored away to West Ham United, was from closer range, he still did well to keep an instinctive half-volleyed finish down as the ball arrived at speed.
Then, away to Brentford on Saturday, Caicedo fired a rising drive into the top corner, which briefly put the Blues ahead at the Gtech Community Stadium and saw his name chanted loudly by the travelling Chelsea supporters.
It was a goal that blended power and precision. And as we have now seen on several occasions, that is the perfect snapshot of Caicedo’s shooting ability!
