Moises Caicedo is determined to live up to the expectations of Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior, who the midfielder says is determined to 'help me to become an even better player'.
The Ecuador international has remained a central figure in the Chelsea side following Rosenior's arrival in January. He has started all five Premier League games under our new head coach, who has made an unbeaten start in the top flight.
Points were dropped in our last Premier League outing, a 2-2 draw at home to Leeds United, but Caicedo is confident the Blues are only growing stronger under Rosenior's leadership.
‘Every game we want to win, so we were very disappointed to get just one point,' Caicedo explains. 'But I think we are doing very well. We are learning from our mistakes.
‘Liam is doing well, too. We are happy to have him here and every day we are working hard. Every day we are doing what he wants and we are doing it on the pitch in games.’
Since arriving in west London, Rosenior has repeatedly stated his admiration for Caicedo, hailing him as one of the world's best in his position. However, he has also been clear in his belief that there is even more to come from the 24-year-old.
And proving Rosenior’s faith in him is not misplaced has become a source of great motivation for Caicedo.
‘The first day he came in, I had a meeting with him,’ says Moises. ‘We talked about myself because he watched a lot of our games, especially me.
‘So for sure he wants to help me to become an even better player, that’s why he came here as well. It’s so good to hear that because it helps you a lot to keep doing well and keep improving.
‘He wants the best for you, so I’m trying really hard every day, in every game, to show why he said I’m one of the best players.’
Caicedo’s next opportunity to show what he is capable of arrives tomorrow when Burnley visit Stamford Bridge for a 3pm kick-off in the Premier League.
Following a rare chance for the squad to refresh and take a breath after a gruelling run of fixtures, Caicedo is ready and raring to go.
‘It was so nice to have some days off. It’s important mentally and for the body as well, so it was good,’ continued Caicedo.
‘I spent time with my family because sometimes you need that. I had a very good time and now I’ve come back good and ready to go again.
‘We know we need to have a winning mentality. In every game, we need to show everything against every opponent, because every opponent is very tough.
‘For sure, we want to show our best football. We want to approach it like it’s a final, because every game is a final for us. It will be a tough game, but we are preparing very well for it.’
