Moises Caicedo’s showreel of spectacular goals in a Chelsea shirt is growing by the month. His latest, against Liverpool, meant a lot to the Ecuadorian, who continues to set the standard at Stamford Bridge.

Having already netted a brilliant goal at Brentford this season - in addition to spectacular strikes against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Real Betis in previous campaigns - Caicedo crashed a rocket into the top corner to put us 1-0 up on Saturday.

It was a blistering effort befitting of the occasion, and provided further proof Caicedo simply doesn’t score easy goals!

‘One day I am going to do it!’ he smiled. ‘I play as a midfielder and I’m always outside the D, that’s it.

‘When I hit it, for sure I knew the ball was going to go in. I ran to the corner to celebrate with the players and the fans.

‘It was special for me because it was against a great opponent. For sure I want to score goals to help the team, and it was a great goal. I told myself I had to score a goal from outside the box, and I did it.’

Widely regarded as the best midfielder in the Premier League right now, Caicedo continues to impress. The Chelsea supporters are in no doubt just how important he is to the team, but the 23-year-old is quick to play down comparisons with previous midfield greats N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele.

‘It’s so good the fans love me, but for sure I am very far from N’Golo Kante or Makelele,’ Caicedo said.

‘What they did here was a lot. I am going to keep working because I want to become a legend here and reach a lot of things with this amazing club.’

A player who took a big first step to greatness at Stamford Bridge on Saturday is Estevao Willian. His dramatic injury-time winner was some way to open his Chelsea account, and Caicedo explained why the young Brazilian deserved that magical moment.

‘It was a great feeling when Estevao scored. He is doing a great job here and we are so happy to have him here.

‘You can see on the pitch he is so good, it’s the same in training. He is showing his quality. We try to help him because the Premier League is so difficult. He is having an impact.’

Caicedo believes the resilience and quality on display against the reigning champions bodes well for the months ahead. He also underlined the impact the Chelsea supporters had on the result.

‘It was a great day for the club. The fans were amazing. We appreciate that because they push us and it was important for us to win the game.

‘This is a result to build on. We showed our quality and our character on the pitch. This win can give us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

He added: ‘The Premier League is so difficult and you need to be consistent. And when you beat big teams, it’s important for your confidence. We did it and we are going to keep going, step by step.’
