Moises Caicedo was left frustrated and disappointed after the Blues were knocked out of the Champions League following an 8-2 defeat on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.
It was a tough night at Stamford Bridge as the Blues were unable to overturn the three-goal deficit from the first leg in Paris last week. And, unfortunately, the aggregate score only widened as PSG sealed a 3-0 victory in SW6.
After the confirmation of our exit from this season's Champions League, Caicedo, who wore the captain's armband following Enzo Fernandez substitution in the second half, reflected on a challenging tie against the current European champions.
‘It was disappointing for everyone,’ Moises opened. ‘Of course, we know PSG are a very tough opponent. We tried to show our best, but they are the current champions of the competition. We did our best, but we didn’t get what we wanted.'
Caicedo reiterated that he and his Chelsea team-mates wanted to pose a greater threat to PSG in the second leg in west London, even though the odds were against the Blues.
Yet he accepts the quality shown by the Parisians, who scored twice in the opening 15 minutes of last night's game, extinguished any hope of pulling off an unlikely comeback.
He said: 'We wanted to do better, but [PSG] are one of the best teams in the world. We are disappointed and want to do better.
'Everyone was ready to fight, but I think we have four competitions playing every two or three days. Sometimes, in this scenario, it’s so difficult because they are doing well. We will keep going.'
