After putting pen to paper on his new contract, Jimmy-Jay Morgan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to extend his stay with Chelsea and his excitement for the upcoming Premier League 2 season.

Morgan has extended his stay for another three years after joining the club at the end of the January 2023 transfer window from Southampton.

Since becoming a Blue, the 18-year-old has impressed as he worked his way through the Academy squads. Despite starting as an Under-18, he swiftly transitioned into the Under-21s and became an influential player throughout last season's PL2 campaign.

During the 2023/24 season, Morgan was the Under-21s' top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions. The attacker hopes to build on that achievement, constantly setting new targets as he continues to learn and advance during his time at the club.

Speaking after signing his contract, he said: ‘I am extremely happy to extend my stay. Who wouldn’t be, it’s Chelsea!

‘Ever since joining the club, I have felt comfortable in the environment, which makes you confident enough to push yourself to new limits and get the best out of you. I’m grateful and very lucky to be part of this community.’

Reflecting on his performances since joining the club, Morgan noted his progression on and off the pitch – and he highlights that during the summer break, he was working on his mindset.

And he believes learning how to be positive and deal with pressure allows his performance to flourish.

‘Completing last season was significant for me as it was my first full season back since my surgery. Finishing as top goal scorer was a huge achievement, but I want to repeat that again this season – I forgot to mention, I am very ambitious!

‘But along with performing well, I have recently learned the importance of maintaining a positive state of mind. Holding a strong mental attitude is crucial and can take you just as far as being a talented player on the pitch.

‘I feel really fit physically and mentally I am in a steady place. My headspace is completely focused and filled with motivation.’

As pre-season training continues and our Academy prepares for the new campaign ahead, Morgan has shared his hopes for the future and what he aims to achieve in the campaign ahead.

‘I am looking forward to seeing what comes next for me. I definitely want to continue to learn new techniques and progress my strengths. I am ready to kick on to the new season and, hopefully, show my capabilities and passion each week.

‘My focus right now is just continuing to do what I have been doing since walking through the door. Also who knows, an opportunity across the road might come about, which would be a surreal moment.’
