Mason Mount has pledged he and his team-mates will put smiles on the faces of Chelsea supporters after club football resumes following a six-week break.

Our two-times Player of the Year was part of the Blues side that lost a third consecutive game when visiting Newcastle yesterday. We go into the break for Qatar 2022 knowing that an improvement is needed to restore a top-four position in the Premier League table.

Mount, who is part of the England squad heading to World Cup, took to his social media today to make an honest assessment.

‘We haven’t played to the level we expect of ourselves as Chelsea,’ the 23-year-old wrote to the club’s supporters.

‘You all deserve more from us. When we’re back from the World Cup, we are getting straight back to it and pushing ourselves to a higher level.

‘We have the best fans in the country and we will make you proud this season.’

Club duty for Mount and his colleagues restarts on 27 December with a home game against Bournemouth, before a New Year’s Day visit to Nottingham Forest and then the hosting of Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
