Mykhailo Mudryk let out a roar of emotion as he slid across the Stamford Bridge pitch in celebration. His 76th-minute goal against Newcastle United had given Chelsea breathing space – and would prove to be an important winner.

The strike was born out of natural ability and pure instinct. Seven opposition players stood between the Ukrainian and Newcastle goal when he took possession of the ball 20 yards out. Most were eliminated with just two touches.

Three more would follow. The first to advance into the penalty box, the second to skip beyond goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, and the third to guide the ball into the net. It was a goal that was celebrated wildly by those inside Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk had sparked similar scenes when the two sides had met in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in December. On that occasion, the Ukraine international's goal forced the tie to penalties.

This time around, Mudryk's goal ensured victory for Chelsea inside 90 minutes. And the jubilation that greeted his strike will live long in the memory of the winger.

'I felt this unbelievable roar [from the crowd],' the 23-year-old explained. 'It was one of my best moments since I’ve been here at Chelsea. It was like goosebumps, you know.'

The instinctive nature of the goal meant Mudryk didn't quite appreciate the true quality of his strike. He went from claiming possession 20 yards out to rolling the ball home from close range inside four seconds. There was also a nutmeg on Fabian Schar thrown in, too.

‘Nothing special,’ Mudryk replied with a smile when asked about his goal after our 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge. ‘It’s normal.’

Mudryk and Chelsea are back on FA Cup duty this weekend as Leicester City visit Stamford Bridge for a quarter-final tie.

The Ukrainian struck on our last outing in the competition, a 3-2 victory against Leeds United, showcasing a new celebration that saw him point to an imaginary wristwatch. But what was the meaning behind it?

Mudryk explained. 'It meant it was God’s time. You know, stay calm, don’t worry.’
