The date of 19 May will always hold a special place in Chelsea history, and on the 11th anniversary of our maiden Champions League triumph in Munich we can confirm one of the former Blues who featured in that dramatic final will play in the Legends of Europe game against Bayern.

Salomon Kalou was named in Roberto Di Matteo’s starting line-up in the Allianz Arena on that wonderful night in Bavaria, as we eventually emerged victorious on penalties.

The Ivory Coast international played his part en route to Munich, too. Kalou scored the winner in Lisbon in the first leg of our quarter-final against Benfica, a tie we went on to win 3-1 on aggregate, and had also netted in the group stage as we thrashed Genk 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The winger made 254 Chelsea appearances in total – seven of them in that triumphant 2011/12 Champions League campaign, which was his last with the Blues – and scored 60 goals for the club overall during six years at the Bridge.

Kalou will link up with his former team-mate John Terry and with Roberto Di Matteo, the man who guided us to glory in Munich. The Italian will manage the Chelsea Legends team, which will also include Blues great Gianfranco Zola and many more stars still to be announced.

Tickets for the Legends of Europe game on Saturday 9 September are on sale now here priced at £35 for adults and £17.50 for juniors and seniors. Club Chelsea tickets are available here from £35 for a seat only or £120 for full hospitality.

All proceeds from the game – which is being played in memory of the late Gianluca Vialli – will be split between The Chelsea Foundation and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports the work of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where the iconic former Chelsea forward was treated.
