Before the Blues departed the USA and returned to England, Nathalie Bjorn penned our final tour diary entry where she discusses her first pre-season at Chelsea and the work done in the States.

This has been my first pre-season trip with Chelsea and I have really enjoyed it. I was a little bit nervous coming back in summer because I had not done that before at this club because I only signed in January, but it was a mix of nervousness and excitement.

I was excited to work with the new staff and to start getting ready for my first full season as a Chelsea player.

When I came here at the start of the year everything was go, go go! I was straight away playing games and didn’t have much time to take it all in. Tour has been a great way for me to relax a bit and to understand things a bit more.

I think I have felt a lot of the feelings now that I should’ve felt when I signed, but maybe I didn’t back then because it was so intense and we were so busy with all of our games.

It’s been a good opportunity to grow closer with the girls. Of course, I knew them well already but we’ve been together all the time on this trip and that only helps you get to know each other even better.

We have a few new players and I know how it feels to join the team having done it recently myself, so I’ve been spending time with them. Obviously, I’ve been with my Swedish friends a lot because they hold a special place in my heart.

Pre-season is about working to be ready for the season as a team and as individuals. I think I’ve made good progress here in America, but I’m not where I want to be yet. It is a process and that takes time.

Sonia is very patient. She has made it clear to the squad that it is OK to make mistakes, as long as we learn from them and understand the way she wants us to play and we know what she expects from us.

Working with the new staff has been very good. They want to push us to the next level, and I think we have the opportunity to be the best we can be. We want to keep the ball and be effective when we can. It’s about high pressure and intensity – being in control of the game.

It won’t be long until the season starts once we get back to England. During my first full season, my aims are to play as much as possible and to do whatever I can to help the team.

We start the season as reigning league champions and we don’t want to give that title up.

Being at Chelsea means winning. If we can keep doing what Sonia wants us to do and building those relationships on the pitch then I think we can achieve everything that we want to achieve.
