The Blues were made to work incredibly hard for tonight's victory over Cardiff City but Pedro Neto believes Chelsea's will to win eventually shone through in Wales.

There was nothing to separate the sides in the first half of Tuesday night's League Cup quarter-final clash.

The League One leaders impressed throughout the contest and it took the introduction of Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro at half-time, and then several more during the second half, for the momentum to shift in the Blues' favour.

Some good play from Facundo Buononotte set Garnacho up for the first goal just before the hour and it looked as though we might be heading for penalties when David Turnbull headed the hosts level with a quarter of an hour remaining.

But Neto put the visitors in front with eight minutes remaining and then Garnacho rounded off the victory with a classy finish in injury-time.

'It was the concentration,' Neto said. 'It was the will of winning this game. We wanted to win a lot this game. Then we had guys on the pitch who could make the difference and Garna [Alejandro Garnacho] today helped us a lot as well with two goals.'

Chelsea were very much on top when Cardiff equalised and Neto explained: 'Sometimes we were under control but sometimes it's the small details that make the difference. Maybe we lost a bit of concentration because we had a lot of corners in that time in the game, and the first time they went up after the corners, they score. So it was a bit of a lack of concentration, but in the end we could go through, so we are really happy.'

While we had to work harder than Blues' fans may have hoped, the end result is we are in the pot for the League Cup semi-final draw, which will take place on Wednesday night after the Newcastle United and Fulham tie.

With Conference League and Club World Cup winners' medals already around his neck, Neto is hoping to add the League Cup to his collection come March.

'It's really important,' he said. 'The manager said in the last 18 months this is the third semi-final we had, so we are really happy with that. We got the win, so we are already looking for the next game.'

Before adding: 'We are Chelsea, we want to win trophies. Our mindset is to win all the games.'
