The Premier League is back on the menu for Chelsea's last match before Christmas, and here are all the facts and figures you need to know ahead of our trip north to face Newcastle United.

Ahead of our 17th game of the top-flight campaign, we sit fourth in the table with 28 points, eight points behind leaders Arsenal. However, just six points separate the Blues and Newcastle United, who are currently 12th.

Head-to-head

Chelsea have only beaten Tottenham (82) on more occasions than Newcastle (78) in all competitions.

The last time we won at Newcastle was in October 2021 in the Premier League. Two goals from Reece James and a Jorginho penalty wrapped up a 3-0 victory.

Our most recent Premier League match against Newcastle resulted in a 2-0 defeat in May. We have not gone without scoring in consecutive league encounters with the Magpies since February 1933.

In total, 37 of the 60 Premier League games between Newcastle and Chelsea have been won by the home side, the most home wins for any fixture in the competition’s history.

We have lost 15 Premier League away games against Newcastle, only losing more at Arsenal and Liverpool (both 17) in that competition.

Chelsea stats

Only Crystal Palace (16) have won more points on the road this season than Chelsea (14).

The Blues have won each of our last eight Premier League games that have kicked off at 12.30pm on a Saturday, including this season’s home win over Fulham and away victories at Nottingham Forest and Burnley.

Chelsea have not scored in only two of our 24 matches this season in all competitions: Crystal Palace on the opening weekend and Bournemouth earlier this month.

Only Arsenal (10) have conceded fewer Premier League goals than the Blues (15). No side has more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Chelsea (eight).

Chelsea have kept four clean sheets in our past five away Premier League matches, losing 3-1 to Leeds United at Elland Road in the other game. We had kept five clean sheets in our 38 away games beforehand.

Pedro Neto has been involved in more Premier League goals than any other Chelsea player this season (eight – five goals, three assists), with four of his five goals scored coming away from home.

Chelsea are three points away from reaching 100 points under Enzo Maresca. Since the start of last season, only three teams have achieved that milestone in the same timeframe.

Newcastle have the sixth-best home Premier League record with 16 points from eight games. They have won five against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Manchester City and Burnley, drawn one with Tottenham Hotspur and lost two to Liverpool and Arsenal in the first two months of the season. Since those defeats they are unbeaten at home in five matches (four wins, one draw).

The Magpies have scored exactly two goals in each of their past five Premier League home games and are averaging exactly two goals per game under Eddie Howe at St James’ Park (158 goals in 79 games).

Against Sunderland last weekend, Newcastle failed to score a Premier League goal for the first time since a goalless draw at Bournemouth in September.

The Tynesiders have conceded in each of their last nine Premier League games. They have never gone 10 in a row without a clean sheet under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle have dropped 11 points from leading positions this season, one more than Chelsea.

Bruno Guimaraes has either scored (four) or assisted (one) a goal in each of his last five Premier League home games, with all five of those involvements putting Newcastle a goal ahead in the match. The Brazilian has scored five goals in the competition this season, only netting more in a single campaign in 2023/24 (seven). Nine of his last 10 overall, and all five this season, have come at St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s draw against Spurs earlier this month (the result as 2-2) was their first at home in the Premier League in 2025.

Only Manchester United (10) have hit the woodwork in the Premier League this season more times than Newcastle (nine).
