A performance full of verve and vigour showed just what this Chelsea team is capable of, according to Niamh Charles, a star performer on the night we beat Roma 6-0.

The Blues looked at our fluid best and once an own goal had put us in front, memories of the weekend loss to Everton were banished as the goals began to flow.

It was the perfect response to Sunday’s setback and underlined just how much attacking talent the team possesses. Charles, a constant threat from left-back including in the build-up to our third of the night, described the evening from her perspective.

‘It was really good performance all round,’ she said.

‘It was an enjoyable night for the players that started and the players that came off the bench. There were lots of different scorers, and lots of different types of goals.

‘I really enjoyed it. I love being out there, I love being in front of our home fans at Stamford Bridge. We all felt connected and the rhythm of the team felt really good.’

Chelsea go into next week’s trip to Wolfsburg in third place in the Champions League standings and with direct qualification to the quarter-finals in our hands. Charles is confident we can replicate our recent European form and secure a positive result in Germany in the process.

‘We’re looking forward to going there next week off the back of this result,’ she said.

‘We want to challenge ourselves and finish the year really strongly. Hopefully we can go there and put on a similar performance.’
