The significance of Chelsea’s game at Newcastle is not lost on Noni Madueke, and the winger is confident the Blues can return to London with three huge Premier League points in tow.

We will start the day behind the fourth-place Magpies only on goals scored so little has there been to choose between the two Champions League hopefuls this season. A victory would move us into a minimum of fourth position with just two league games remaining, irrespective of how the other contenders get on this weekend.

Madueke stressed his only focus right now is on helping the team secure elite European football next season, not his own individual targets, and that challenge begins in the North-East.

‘It’s a massive game,’ he said.

‘The three games we have left are going to be vital, but we definitely want to go to St James’ Park and try and get a win. That’s how we will approach it, and we can do it.

‘Everyone knows we have aspirations to finish in the Champions League positions, and the great win against Liverpool was a massive step forward.

‘Now I just want to win the rest of the games. I’m not too bothered about what I do as an individual, in the best way possible. It’s more about trying to win these games as a collective. Of course, I always try to affect the game and do my job - it helps my team if I play well - but it’s really about the collective right now.’

Overseeing that collective is Enzo Maresca, who Madueke praised for the way he has managed the squad during a busy campaign featuring lots of Thursday night football.

The 23-year-old has developed his game under the Italian, registering 11 goals and five assists this season. It is his best return in a Chelsea shirt.

‘He has helped me in certain aspects of my game, with my numbers for sure,’ Madueke explained.

‘He has helped me try to be in the right positions to try to affect the game as much as possible and show my qualities.’

Maresca, and all at Chelsea, will be hoping Madueke does that once again on Sunday afternoon.
