Chelsea midfielder Sjoeke Nusken can’t wait for tonight’s London derby clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the Women’s Super League as we enter a busy but vital period for our trophy ambitions across four competitions.

An action-packed month for the Blues continues with the visit of capital rivals Arsenal to what is set to be a packed Stamford Bridge, in a match that could be crucial to the Women’s Super League title race.

Chelsea currently sit at the top of the table, ahead of Manchester City on goal difference and three points ahead of tonight’s opponents Arsenal. Going into such an important game, and a derby to boot in front of a large crowd in SW6, Nusken is excited by the prospect of another big atmosphere at the Bridge.

‘This is a very big game, we know that,’ said Nusken. ‘But we’re really excited about it, especially to play at Stamford Bridge again, in such an important game for the league. And we’re ready for it.

‘I think it’s very cool to play derbies. The atmosphere is always special inside the stadium, so I really like that. I’ve also found it very enjoyable playing matches at Stamford Bridge. I like to see so many fans coming to watch us, it adds something to it, and they are so good for us.

‘We love playing at this stadium and we still have the Champions League quarter-final against Ajax at Stamford Bridge this month, and hopefully also a semi-final after that.’

As Nusken highlights, this is a busy period for the Blues. In addition to the tight contest at the top of the WSL, we are also still competing for silverware across three cup competitions.

We will face Arsenal again in the Continental Tyres League Cup final at Molineux at the end of March, have the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final at Ajax coming up on Tuesday, and set up an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United with the 1-0 victory over Everton last time out.

While the German international admits the current schedule is not one she has previously come across in her career, she wouldn’t want it any other way.

‘We’re just thinking about this one – and then we’ll go from game to game. We have so many matches to play, we cannot lose the focus on what is in front of us.

‘We play football to play games. It was a new experience against Everton last weekend for me as it was the first game I’ve played without any training between the last game! I went from game to game, but my first experience of it went well.

‘In Germany, we have one cup less and not as many games as you have in England, especially with us being in the Champions League. So it’s new for me.

‘We are in a routine to play matches, keep doing what we’re doing, so it’s easier to have so many games and to keep this routine. It’s so cool that we have so many important games to come.

‘I want to win a lot of trophies, and Chelsea is the right club for that. We’re in four competitions, we want to win all four of them and it would be very nice.’

The midfielder also believes we are in a good position to continue pushing for silverware until the end of the season, as she feels both herself and the team are in good form and picking up a head of steam with around two months remaining of her debut campaign in English football.

‘I think it’s going very good,’ reflected Nusken. ‘I’ve had a lot of minutes to play, we’ve had some really good games and results, and I feel very good in the team and happy to be here. I feel very comfortable in the dressing room.

‘I think we are performing well at the moment. We’ve had some good games, clean sheets and wins, so I’d say that’s a good performance from us.

‘Momentum is something that is very important in football. Having a good feeling before you start the game can make a big difference to getting the win, so we want to keep that going.’

With the Blues on a streak of 13 wins from our last 14 fixtures across all competitions, and having suffered just two defeats all season, Chelsea Women certainly have plenty of momentum to carry into our next game against Arsenal.

In form and backed by a passionate home crowd at the Bridge, hopefully we can pick up a little more by the final whistle tonight.
