Blue is the colour in LA
Three of our Los Angeles-based groups came together to show their incredible support. @LAChelseablues, @ocbluescfc and @cila1905 united for a special West Coast event, highlighting just how strong the Chelsea fanbase is out in LA.
Thank you all for your continued support. If you’re in LA, make sure to find your local chapter and get involved.
Club Spotlight: The Dutch Blues
Jorrit Meijer, club secretary of the Dutch Blues, shares more about the group and their history.
How were the Dutch Blues founded?
It all started in 2017, when my dad took me to Chelsea vs Newcastle. At that game, I spoke to Shane, a Chelsea fan living in the Netherlands who had a season ticket. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep his contact details, and ever since then I’d been trying to find him again, and more broadly, connect with other Chelsea fans in the Netherlands. That search finally led somewhere in 2020, when I found the official Chelsea Supporters Club page. At the time, there were two small and inactive groups in the Netherlands. One of them was The Hague Blues, founded by Maxwell Stein. Together, we decided to restart it, eventually turning it into Dutch Blues by bringing both inactive groups together into one.
Premier League Mornings Live: The Blues in Tampa
Chelsea was on the ground in Tampa in the United States as part of the Premier League Mornings, delivering a series of fan-focused activities across last weekend and celebrating the club’s US fanbase. Fans could get involved with an exclusive on-site activity that gave supporters the opportunity to have their photo taken with Blues stars Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro.
Blues fans from across the US travelled to Tampa to show their support.
Starting the weekend off, Tampa’s Official Chelsea Supporters Club, Cigar City Blues, hosted a welcome event for fans travelling to the city. The gathering provided an opportunity for supporters to meet and connect in person, and included a raffle for a signed Chelsea shirt donated by the club.
Cigar City Blues also celebrated their 12-year anniversary as an Official Supporters Club. Member’s of the group explained what the group means to them:
‘Genuine camaraderie. Most of our regular matchday attendees are very close friends. Several of us have travelled to the Bridge together with our families over the years.’
- Linsday Mize
‘Aside from the Champions League final, I think it’s just the people I’ve met through Chelsea bringing us together. I’ve made so many new friends. Our social media manager, Iliyan, he is like a brother to me and essentially an uncle to my wife and I’s child. Without Chelsea and the Cigar City Blues we would have never met.’
- Zack Doan
‘I don't think nothing will ever match 29.05.2021 when the entire pub was all Chelsea fans for the Champions League final win against Man City. The entire experience felt surreal because it was the first of that kind for the group. The euphoria and the joy that erupted after the final whistle will probably never be topped unless it's another Champions League final.’
- Iliyan Ivanov
