Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had already endeared himself to Blues supporters when he hit new heights a couple of months into his Chelsea career, smashing four goals in against Coventry City at Stamford Bridge exactly 25 years ago today.

Jimmy joined from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2000 and opened his account for the Blues in the 2-0 Community Shield win over Manchester United at Wembley.

He then bagged on his Premier League debut for us, too, with his next three goals coming against Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Coventry arrived at the Bridge on Saturday 21 October 2000 fresh from beating Tottenham, but they were blown away by a superb Chelsea display that showcased what our side, with newly-appointed Claudio Ranieri at the helm, was capable of.

Hasselbaink won and then converted a penalty in the 25th minute to get the rout underway, and he doubled our lead shortly before the break with a bending effort having cut in from the left flank. It was a goal we would see many times again!

After Gianfranco Zola had made it 3-0, Hasselbaink completed his hat-trick with a tap-in - although one of the more emphatic variety, of course! - and then bagged his fourth with another pinpoint finish. His quartet of goals were scored in just 33 minutes.

Sub Tore-Andre Flo added a sixth with what would prove his final Chelsea goal before departing for Rangers, with Ed de Goey's clean sheet spoiled by Cedric Roussel in the 89th minute.

Still, there was no doubt who the day belonged to. Hasselbaink finished as the Premier League's top goalscorer with 23 goals, and there was no more profitable day than his one against Coventry at the Bridge.
