Joining the podcast in Hong Kong during the Blues’ pre-season tour of Asia and Australia, our No10 discussed a wide range of subjects, including the addition of his old friend Morgan Rogers to the Chelsea squad, as well as providing his own unique solutions to supporters’ personal dilemmas.

Palmer also spoke about how he first started playing football as a youngster growing up in Manchester. When asked what he was like as a child, he went on to explain how he began playing cage football in his local park.

‘I was happy. My mum always said I was a happy kid, just normal,’ Cole began.

‘I was just like a normal kid, I just used to play out, go into the ramps and that, because I used to live ten seconds away from a park. So I used to just go on the ramps with scooters and bikes and whatever.

‘And there used to be a cage next to it, so we just used to flip between the two, just chill outside the shops, do whatever.’

Those games against all comers – and all ages – had a lasting impact on his development, one he believes has had a positive effect on his career since.

‘It was always older kids than me. To be fair, it helped me, because if I didn't play with them then I probably wouldn't be as good as I am now.

‘They didn't like it if you beat them and they wouldn’t go easy on you. They didn't care that you were younger, they just didn't think about that.

‘So naturally I learned skills that you wouldn't probably do at that age, like protecting the ball. That was a big thing I did when I was little, learning how to use my body.

‘When you're just playing all day from morning to night, with all different people, older people, I think it helps you. And it's obviously enjoyable.’
