Pedro Neto was proud of the Blues' resilience and competitive nature as we secured an important first Champions League win of the campaign against Benfica.

Under the floodlights at the Bridge, the Chelsea supporters might’ve only been treated to a single strike during the 1-0 victory – an own-goal from the Portuguese side, which was forced by neat work from Neto and Alejandro Garnacho – but they watched a performance that was much more about hard work, determination and resilience.

Those key attributes were embodied by the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Neto and more, who were constantly running and fighting for every challenge all night as we looked to make amends for our Bayern Munich defeat on matchday one of the European competition.

Neto admitted that the game in Munich was on his mind as he prepared for tonight’s match, and he felt that the Blues had learned much from that night in mid-September.

‘We learned a lot from the first game and we are really happy,’ the winger explained, speaking after the victory.

‘I think the team did really well. We knew the difficulties we had in the first game, and we tried to work hard to manage moments in this game. I think today we showed the resilience of the team.

‘Benfica are a tough team to face at home. We knew we would have to work hard tonight. We played well, we could’ve controlled the match more with the quality we have, but we are really happy with the three points.’

Neto has been an ever-present for the Blues this season, and he has enjoyed the challenge presented to him by Enzo Maresca, as he looks to continue his development.

He continued: ‘I always try to improve and do the best for the team, and I think today we worked hard as a group, and we are really happy. It’s a really important win.’

The Portuguese international knows that there is more work to do as we welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the Premier League, but he believes that last night’s win can help inspire the Blues.

Pedro added: ‘A win in this competition, the Champions League, shows what we can do, and I think we can do even better. We will be ready to play against Liverpool.’
