Pedro’s goal against Slavia Prague in the quarter-final of our victorious Europa League campaign has been nominated for UEFA’s Goal of the Season award.

The goal came five minutes into the second leg of our quarter-final tie against the Czechs at Stamford Bridge at the end of an incisive and free-flowing move.

Taking control of the ball on the right wing, the Spaniard exchanged passes with compatriot Cesar Azpilicueta, receiving a neat flick back from the defender, before a one-two with Olivier Giroud set him bearing down on goal. His finish was equally composed, lifted over the onrushing goalkeeper to extend our aggregate advantage.

The Blues won a topsy-turvy game 4-3 to progress to the last four. The 31-year old went on to net in the semi-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt and the second goal in our 4-1 triumph over Arsenal in the final.

His Slavia strike, the first of two that night, was one of 10 that made the shortlist of all goals scored in UEFA club and international competitions in the 2018/19 season.
