A string of outstanding saves meant Belgium were unable to break down Iran, with the Red Devils having 23 shots and forcing Alireza Beiranvand into seven stops.

And Iran could have won the game themselves, with former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois making a couple of impressive saves at the other end and striker Mehdi Teremi having a goal ruled out for a narrow offside following a smart free-kick routine.

Iran's hopes of victory were boosted when Belgium were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when young defender Nathan Ngoy misplaced a long pass-back and pulled down Teremi.

But they had to settle for a draw, meaning both are on two points, with leaders Egypt on four. Third-placed Belgium now face New Zealand in their final group match on Friday.
