Djordje Petrovic cut a frustrated figure when reflecting on our draw with Brentford but the Serbian is quickly shifting the focus to Monday’s visit of Newcastle, a game he feels is a great chance to return to winning ways.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw against our west London neighbours at the weekend, with Axel Disasi securing a share of the spoils with a late equaliser. Nicolas Jackson had earlier put us in front before the Bees hit back through Mads Roerslev and Yoane Wissa.

Petrovic, who put in another fine display in goal, was frustrated we didn’t claim all three points but believes we have a great opportunity to do just that when Eddie Howe’s Newcastle visit SW6 on Monday evening.

‘Of course, we are not happy with this result because our goal for every game is to take three points,’ Djordje said of our weekend draw with Brentford.

‘We were in control in the first half but in the second half, we conceded two goals and then we had a fight on our hands. Credit to Brentford, they played a good game but we are not happy because our goal was to win this game.

‘Now, we must focus on the next game and putting it right against Newcastle. With the game being on Monday night, we have a lot of time to recover and focus on what we need to do to get the three points there.’

Petrovic has established himself as Chelsea’s first choice between the sticks, grasping his opportunity when it arrived following an injury to Robert Sanchez at the end of last year.

The Serbian, delighted to be helping the team, feels that there is still plenty to play for across both the league and the FA Cup and feels games like the Brentford draw and the recent Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool can act as ‘lessons’ to this young Chelsea side to help us improve.

‘We feel the pain from this result because we want to win every game and it’s off the back of a tough week, following the defeat in the Carabao Cup final,’ added the stopper.

‘After that game at Wembley, we needed to get back to winning ways and we found that extra motivation and energy against Leeds. We had a good result and we wanted to do that again against Brentford.

‘These are things we can learn from. The final was a good experience even though it wasn’t the end result we wanted. We are a young team and it was a good lesson for us, to improve on next time.

‘We have big games coming up in both the Premier League and the FA Cup and there is still so much for us to achieve this season.’
