We visit Arsenal in Premier League 2 action tonight and you can watch the game live on the 5th Stand app and the Chelsea website.
It has been 49 days since our last competitive game and Andy Myers’ men will hope for a positive return to the field when we make the short trip to Borehamwood's Meadow Park in the latest PL2 London derby.
Kick-off time and how to watch
Kick-off this evening is 7pm. Coverage on the 5th Stand app and this website will begin shortly before the first whistle and with report and reaction to follow.
The opposition
Arsenal are the league's in-form team with five wins in their last six games, including a 6-0 thrashing of Blackburn back in November. The string of results has pulled the north London side away from the bottom of the table after a poor start and they now occupy sixth place on 18 points.
From the dressing room
Development squad defender Levi Colwill is looking forward to being back in action this evening and talks preparations in a pandemic after an unsettled start to the year 2021.
‘It’s a relief to be back because it feels as though we’ve been at home for so long after having more time off over Christmas than usual due to the pandemic and then the weather. To hopefully get going again this weekend is exciting,’ he said.
‘It’s been a bit stop start and preparing for games with just three days of training isn’t ideal, it will be tough, but it will bring out the athletes in us and show that as a team we are all physically strong and ready for the games.
‘We have to prepare as best as possible, if we can’t train we spend a lot of time analysing the opposition to get used to how they play. Getting ready for the games as best as we can is the only thing we can do, postponements happen and we just have to deal with it.’
With other teams around third-placed Chelsea already getting points on the board this calendar year, a win tonight could propel Myers’ team back to the top of the table with two games in hand and Colwill is keen to get off to a good start.
‘Spirits are still high, we are halfway there. If we carry on from where we ended last year it will put us in a good place for the rest of the season,’ he said.
‘A big win tonight to kick-off the second-half of the season will just show how far we’ve come from the losses at the beginning of the season, we have adapted and we are a better team now.’
Under-18s
Tomorrow, Ed Brand will take his boys to West Brom in Under-18 Premier League action - Charlie Webster, who scored in his last outing at West Ham, last week signed his first professional contract with Chelsea and will hope for more celebration in tomorrow afternoon's 12 noon kick-off.
