Tonight’s game is rearranged from last Friday night and Andy Myers’ men are searching for a win to record a double over Leicester this season.

Kick-off time and how to watch

Today's game away at Leicester's training ground kicks off at 7pm UK time. It is available to watch live on the Chelsea website and on The 5th Stand app.

Our form

In the last outing, Liverpool overturned our half-time lead to win 2-3 at Kingsmeadow. Thierno Ballo hit the net early on but then we struggled to build on the advantage before Liverpool scored three. We are still looking for our first win of 2021. Two defeats and a draw have us sixth in the PL2 table on 23 points.

The opposition

Leicester currently sit 11th on 16 points, having played three games more than the Blues. Their last win came in mid-January with a 4-2 success over Manchester United. Since then the Foxes have struggled for form picking up only a point in their last five outings.

From the dressing room

Dion Rankine, by age is still eligible for the Under-18s and has made three starts for Ed Brand’s team this term. He has featured in all but one game for Myers’ dev squad side and is grateful for the opportunity of playing his football with the older Academy age group.

After scoring his first goal two minutes into his PL2 debut, in a game which Chelsea won 1-0, Rankine acknowledges the challenges of playing at this level but assures us he is up for any opportunity to play.

‘It’s a big jump from playing Under-18s football, physically and mentally. The game really changes a lot between the age groups’, he said. ‘It’s very different from playing with boys that are your age to players of all ages in the development squad and I think it’s been a test for me.’

‘I was expecting it to be quite difficult and it has been so far but hopefully as the season goes on and I keep getting the opportunity to play I can push on and improve. I have to try and take each chance I get to perform well.’

Recent results haven’t gone the way of our development squad but the spirit of the team is never dampened. Rankine is confident of producing pre-Christmas form in the upcoming fixtures.

‘It’s very frustrating to lose in the way we did against Liverpool. In the first half we performed quite well but that fell off towards the end,’ he said. ‘Since then we’ve been raring to go and really want to prove ourselves in the games upcoming. Everyone has been training well and we really want to play the way we know we can to get the best result.

‘I’m confident the team can bounce back and turn it around to get back into the form we were producing before Christmas.’

On Saturday, the Under-18s match against Tottenham will also be available as a live stream on the website and the 5th Stand. Kick-off 11am.
