Our development squad make the trip to St Mary’s to take on Southampton this afternoon in Premier League 2.

Where and when?

St Mary’s Stadium, the Premier League home of Southampton, will host our youngsters in PL2 today (Saturday), with kick-off at 3pm.

The form

Andy Myers’s side have made a strong start to this campaign, tallying up 11 points from their opening five PL2 fixtures. Prior to that, the development squad overcame League Two Swindon Town at the County Ground in a five-goal thriller in the EFL Trophy.

Last time out

The last outing for the development squad was at Stamford Bridge against Brighton & Hove Albion eight days ago where Henry Lawrence and Marcel Lewis put the Blues two goals ahead after 73 minutes. Alex Cochrane hit one back for the visitors in injury time but it was in vain as we claimed our third victory of the PL2 season.

Last meeting

The last meeting between the two sides at St. Mary’s ended goalless back in March 2017. That day, Adi Viveash named Mason Mount as part of his starting line-up as the Blues sat fifth in PL2 on 30 points.

What’s next?

It’s another away trip for the young Blues, who take on Bristol Rovers in Group F of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday 24 September at the Memorial Stadium.

Team news

In his Friday pre-match press conference, Frank Lampard confirmed that Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi will take part in our trip to the south coast as they continue their comeback from injury.

- Earlier this week, Myles Peart-Harris signed his first professional deal at Chelsea. The central midfielder, who made a number of appearances for the youth team while at Under-16 level last term, has been at the club since the age of eight. The England youth international singed a scholarship deal in July 2019, but is now on professional terms with the Blues.
