Leo Black opened the scoring after 14 minutes, before Watson made it three penalties in three PL2 games this season shortly before the interval.

The midfielder added his second with a superb free-kick after the break to put Harry Hudson’s side three goals ahead.

James Scanlon reduced the deficit for Arsenal, but Chizaram Ezenwata rounded off the scoring in stoppage time following a through-ball from Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli.

Two ahead at the break

Harrison Bettoni had our first sight of goal after six minutes, seeing his left-footed effort from distance blocked.

Chelsea went ahead eight minutes later. Sol Gordon’s right-footed shot was blocked, but the ball fell straight to Black, who finished neatly into the bottom corner.

Ezenwata dragged an effort just wide of the left post before the Blues threatened twice in quick succession. Nicoll-Jazuli worked space inside the box but was denied by Jack Porter, who then pushed away Gordon’s effort towards the bottom corner.

Nicoll-Jazuli won a penalty in the 40th minute when he was fouled. Watson stepped up and struck low into the bottom-left corner to double our advantage before the break.

Watson adds his second

Nicoll-Jazuli tested Porter from outside the box shortly after the restart, then fired just over from a central position a minute later.

Harrison McMahon had a long-range strike blocked before Watson extended Chelsea’s lead in the 72nd minute, with his excellent free-kick clipping the post on its way in.

Kendry Paez replaced Bettoni before Ezenwata sent another effort narrowly wide. Arsenal pulled a goal back in the 79th minute through Scanlon, who finished into the bottom-left corner.

Lewi Richards came on for Alfie Osborne and Calvin Diakite replaced Gordon as the Blues made further changes.

Ezenwata then added our fourth five minutes into stoppage time. Nicoll-Jazuli showed great feet before threading the ball through for the striker to finish into the bottom-left corner expertly.

What it means

Cobham Next Gen have now won two of their three PL2 matches this season. Our opening day loss to Bournemouth means we are in seventh place but just one point below leaders Fulham.

Cobham Next Gen turn their attention to the EFL Trophy on Tuesday 15 September, travelling to Adams Park to face Wycombe Wanderers. Kick-off is at 7pm.
