Chelsea dominated much of the opening period and struck the woodwork twice through Chizaram Ezenwata and Black, with Fulham goalkeeper Dino Kaiser repeatedly called upon to keep the Blues at bay.

Fulham had threatened on the counter throughout the afternoon and that was how they took the lead five minutes before the interval. Dan Casey cut inside with two Chelsea players in pursuit before finding the bottom corner with a right-footed finish.

Chelsea turn it around

The Blues continued to create opportunities after the restart and were level seven minutes into the second half. Ezenwata showed good awareness to feed Watson, who squared the ball for Bettoni to stroke a left-footed finish into the net.

Just three minutes later, Chelsea were ahead. Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli – fresh from his senior Blues debut – picked out Watson, who cut inside before firing a right-footed effort into net for his fifth goal of the season and first from open play.

Chelsea continued to look the more threatening side, with Nicoll-Jazuli going close again before the decisive third arrived with 13 minutes remaining.

Black settles it

Ezenwata was again involved, showing excellent awareness to find Black inside the area. The defender turned beautifully before finding the bottom corner with a composed finish to make it 3-1.

Black had earlier struck the crossbar and his goal capped an impressive individual display, while Ezenwata's contribution included hitting the post and providing the assist for the third.

What it means

The result extends Cobham Next Gen's winning run in Premier League 2 to three matches, following victories over West Ham United and Arsenal. Fulham had started the day unbeaten in the competition, having collected seven points from their opening three fixtures.
