Mauricio Pochettino used 23 players in yesterday’s victory over our west-London neighbours Fulham and he was asked about two individuals in particular: Enzo Fernandez and Ian Maatsen.

Enzo started the match against the Cottagers in Washington D.C. while the Dutchamn was named on the bench, although he has ample opportunity to impress while stateside.

Pochettino complemented his compatriot Enzo after our Summer Series victory.

‘Always it is a pleasure with Enzo,' said Pochettino. 'He is very humble, he is a fighter also and he’s a fantastic player, world champion with Argentina and I am so proud of him.

‘I am Argentine also and I shared happiness when they won the World Cup. It is a pleasure when you have a player like him in the squad.’

He also commented on the progress of Ian Maatsen, who has looked promising in big moments this pre-season.

‘He has the capacity to compete for different places on the pitch,' our head coach added. 'He is a player you can use in different positions. I am so happy because his performance didn't change,’ he said.

‘That is what makes us really pleased because he is a player we see with enormous potential for the team.’
