Mauricio Pochettino spoke of his frustration and disappointment after a stoppage-time goal from Oli McBurnie saw his Chelsea side draw 2-2 with Sheffield United.

Ahead of the contest at Bramall Lane, Pochettino wanted his players to harness the energy and positivity created by our last-gasp victory over Manchester United on Thursday evening.

The Blues made a strong start and opened the scoring through Thiago Silva. Unfortunately, we weren't able to build on that goal and the Blades were level at the interval after Jayden Bogle netted.

Noni Madueke restored our advantage in the second period and it appeared as though we would take three points back to west London. But in the five added minutes, McBurnie scored from close range to ensure a share of the spoils.

‘When you concede in the last few minutes, always we feel very disappointed and frustrated because we should win the game in this moment,' said Pochettino in his post-match press conference.

'But for different circumstances, we concede and in the end, it’s a draw. I want to say also now with the draw in our hands, it’s a fair result.

'If you analyse the game, even though we had the control and possession, we didn’t create enough or show the capacity to be solid, strong, and not concede goals. That is the most painful situation.’

Pochettino made three changes to his starting XI, with Trevoh Chalobah, Silva and Madueke coming into the side in place of Malo Gusto, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Chelsea head coach also opted to withdraw Cole Palmer after we had scored our second goal of the day, a change that was born out of a desire to protect the England international.

‘No, not injured,’ said Pochettino. ‘I think he was tired. My feeling was that he was tired. At 2-1 for us, Carney is another No.10 who can do the job.

‘We are happy with him, it was just to protect. He had a knock against Manchester United and was a little bit more tired than normal, so we wanted to protect after we scored the second goal. We wanted to give him some rest and try to avoid some problems in the future.’
