Mauricio Pochettino has been pleased with the way Kepa Arrizabalaga has adapted to the new training regime and demands on our goalkeeper during pre-season.
The Spaniard has played the full 90 minutes of the last two matches of our summer tour of the USA, as we beat Brighton and drew with Newcastle United, after sitting out the opening game with Wrexham.
However, it is the work going on behind the scenes in training with Kepa Arrizabalaga that seems to have really impressed Mauricio Pochettino.
Our head coach brought Toni Jimenez with him to join our coaching staff and work with the goalkeepers, alongside existing coaches like Henrique Hilario, meaning there are fresh training methods for Kepa to adapt to, in addition to the different demands on the goalkeepers’ role which always follows a change in management and playing style for the team.
Not that any of those changes seem to have fazed Kepa, according to Pochettino.
‘We are so happy with him,’ said our head coach, when asked about Kepa.
‘He is showing great commitment in adapting to new demands from Toni, from the coaching staff, and the goalkeeping coach, him and Hilario are working.
‘We are so happy with him and he is a fantastic keeper.’
