Mauricio Pochettino is taking the positives from our goalless draw with Aston Villa, being pleased with our clean sheet and the performance of some of his younger players, and is confident Levi Colwill won't be kept out by the injury suffered tonight.

Chelsea's FA Cup fourth round tie against Aston Villa will continue into another 90 minutes of a replay at Villa Park after the sides couldn't be separated in a stalemate at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Both teams had chances, although arguably the better of them fell to the Blues, especially during a long spell of dominance during the first half.

However, Mauricio Pochettino didn't want to focus too much on our own failure to score, believing we have just as much reason to be happy with our clean sheet against an Aston Villa team which has been in impressive form recently.

'It was the same on both sides,' said Pochettino. 'They have amazing players in attack and they didn’t score and we kept a clean sheet. This kind of game when it is very even and you face a team like Aston Villa it is difficult.

'We didn’t score but created chances and I trust in my players for sure. Playing in this way we are going to score and we came from Tuesday when we scored six. Their keeper is an amazing keeper, Emiliano [Martinez] was really good. Sometimes you need some luck to score.

'Now we are in nearly two months competing in a very good way. That is how we want to compete and keep improving and I think it’s a great opportunity now to go to play Aston Villa in Birmingham in a big game and try to compete.

'It’s going to be good for this young team to have this opportunity to play and show that we can compete even against a team that is doing really well in the Premier League and is in the top four. I think it’s important for our confidence and belief in the way that we are working.'

Levi Colwill had to withdraw from the starting XI after picking up an injury during the warm-up...

'We don’t believe that it is so bad. It is a small issue that maybe he didn’t feel comfortable.

'We knew before maybe we wouldn’t start with him, but he was ready to play and then he felt something. But it is not a big issue and I hope that he can be in training tomorrow.'

His young replacement Alfie Gilchrist put in a promising performance despite the short notice...

'He was really good because the most difficult thing was to manage the stress, because he knew he wasn’t going to play, and then he needed to play. Sometimes with the young guys you give the starting 11 and they know one day before, with too much time and they can’t sleep or the stress can affect them.

'Because it was like 20 or 30 minutes before the start of the game, there wasn’t enough time to think too much, just do the warm-up and play. All the young guys need time to be calm and relaxed and not spend too much energy thinking about the game.

'But today was a really good game for him, he’s going to grow and be more mature in the future with this type of opportunity to play. I think it’s important for his career.

'After he needs to compete with different players in his position, that is going to be tough for him. But we are giving him the opportunity to build his career and it’s important for all the Academy players to have the possibility to play and show that they can cope with the pressure of playing for Chelsea.

'Then we will see if he can reach the level that we expect. Always the first step is really important and we are so happy in the way that he’s now producing and doing the first step.'

Pochettino also had praise for goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who produced some crucial saves to keep Aston Villa out...

'He's doing fantastic. We need to give him full credit because he arrived at Chelsea this season from the MLS.

'He’s really young and he’s competing really well. And the way that he behaves in the goal, I think it shows his quality and his character is amazing. I think he’s doing a fantastic job.'
