Friday afternoon’s media conference at Cobham was the first opportunity for Graham Potter to give his reaction to an important new appointment made by the club during the week.

On Wednesday it was announced that Christopher Vivell is joining immediately as the new technical director of Chelsea Football Club. The German’s previous role was with RB Leipzig where he was responsible for recruitment and scouting, as well as co-ordinating the overall strategy for squad building and recruitment among Red Bull’s wider football group.

Now he is part of Chelsea’s project which recruited Potter back in September. Asked about working with Vivell, our head coach had this to say:

‘My reaction is positive. I've met him a few times and I have a really good feeling. I think he's going to be a real asset for the football club. I think his role is to connect the football club in terms of the different departments, and my normal relationship with technical directors is a supportive one.’

‘We are trying to help each other,’ Potter further explained, ‘so that's how we're going to work. I'm looking forward to that journey together.’

Vivell had spoken about Potter at the time of his appointment, saying:

‘Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club. There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow. Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that.’
