Lauren James wants her success this campaign to be just the beginning as she described what it means to have been named Chelsea Women's Player of the Season.
The forward scooped the accolade at Tuesday night's ceremony at Stamford Bridge.
This has been a superb season for our number 10, who is our top goalscorer in the league with 13, and another three more in cup competitions.
Her performances have consistently lit up Kingsmeadow and Stamford Bridge, where James loves to step up to the occasion, including scoring hat-tricks against Liverpool and Manchester United.
'It's an amazing feeling,' said James on winning the award. 'There is loads of talent in the team and to be nominated alongside Erin Cuthbert and Jess Carter was special. It’s really special to receive it.'
With this being only her third season at the Blues, James is determined to keep having an impact after what has been her most impressive campaign in a Chelsea shirt.
'I’m really proud and hopefully I can keep developing, improving and continuing to help the team,' added James. 'I’m happy with what I’ve been able to contribute this season with the goals and hopefully I can continue doing that.'
This season is a bittersweet one for James and the squad as they prepare to say goodbye to manager Emma Hayes.
James feels indebted to her manager and is grateful for the time they have had together.
'Emma has been massive for me,' said James. 'It’s a big loss and we’ll definitely miss her, but it’s football. We’ll definitely keep in touch anyway, but I’ll definitely miss her on the pitch.'
