Last night’s goalscorer Christian Pulisic says he is feeling strong after another pre-season run out in North Carolina but states there is still plenty more to follow in the coming weeks and months from him personally.
Pulisic, playing 500 miles south of his home town of Hershey, was our scorer half-an-hour into the tie at the Bank of America stadium, after Michy Batshuayi’s effort was initially blocked before kindly falling to our No.10 to dink home from close range.
Despite his first-half goal, it was not to be for Chelsea on the night after a late equaliser from the hosts took the game to penalty kicks, in which the MLS side prevailed.
Despite defeat on the night, Pulisic still thinks there were positive steps taken in our second and penultimate match of our USA tour.
‘I think we're still starting up our season, because it's only our second game together. We're still working on some things but I thought we had some good moments. They really surprised us and then with penalties, anything can happen,’ Pulisic said post-match.
‘It was a big test. They looked like they were in season, in form and very fit. They played a good match. Charlotte really impressed me, and they have come a long way as a soccer city,’ he added.
‘I'm pleased of course [with his goal]. There are some moments where I feel I can be even better but I'm happy with the goal. I'm feeling sharp but I still have more levels to go to and I'm looking forward to continuing to grind and get better.’
Chelsea have now been in the States for 12 days and will spend the rest of our remaining days at our training camp in Orlando.
‘It has been nice,’ Pulisic said of our trip so far. ‘I was able to spend some time in the summer and now to meet up with the team in the States has been great for me. Being able to show the guys around my country has been nice.’
The Blues face an all-London clash against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal next (01:00 Sunday 24 July UK time), before returning to London.
‘It's going to be a good test against someone we will face in the Premier League this year. We are looking forward to the challenge. The last game in the States should be a good one.’
