The ink on Mayra Ramirez's Chelsea contract is still drying as we sit down to discuss her move from Spanish club Levante. Yet she speaks with the confidence and understanding of a player who has been part of Emma Hayes's squad for years.

Every answer to our questions is underpinned by how she can help the team. Personal ambitions do not come before that.

‘It’s always about the collective,' she explains after pulling on a Chelsea shirt for the first time. 'I want to help the team win every competition we’re in this season. It’s about achieving the objectives of the club.'

Ramirez's journey to Chelsea started in her native Colombia. Football was a constant companion. She honed her skills playing futsal, with guidance from her father, and from playing in boys' teams until her teenage years.

Her progression in the women's game has been rapid. Having broken into the senior side at Real Pasion, Ramirez then spent a season at Independiente de Medellin. A move to Europe followed.

Ramirez joined Spanish side Sporting de Huelva in July 2020 and established herself as a key figure in the club's attack over the following two seasons. Her form earned a move to Levante.

She handled the transition with ease. Last season in Liga F, Ramirez scored 14 goals and registered a further 11 assists. This term – before her switch to west London – she had struck six times in seven matches.

The 24-year-old will want to maintain that goalscoring output with Chelsea. However, she is aware of the challenges she will face in the constantly improving Women's Super League.

‘It is one of the best leagues in the world,' she says. 'Spain is, of course, a good league too – and Barcelona play at the highest level. But I think the overall level of the Women's Super League is now the best.

'So I am very excited to discover what the league is like and enter a new environment here'.

Ramirez has already enjoyed a taste of what to expect at Chelsea as she watched on from the stands at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening as we overcome Real Madrid in the UEFA Women's Champions League.

More than 11,000 supporters cheered the Blues on that night and Ramirez is looking forward to performing both at Stamford Bridge and Kingsmeadow in the weeks ahead.

'The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge was amazing – I am also really looking forward to playing at Kingsmeadow. I want to know what it's like and am just looking forward to playing now.’

'I am desperate to be part of it and play here very soon with my teammates. I will always give 100% and always give my best for every team I play for.

'I feel I can bring strength, speed, and goals to the team. I am confident I can do well, help the team achieve what we want this season, and be one of the top teams – if not the best – in Europe.’
