Dario Essugo talks us through his journey to Chelsea and the positive outlook that helped to guide him through a long spell on the sidelines in his first season as a Blue in an exclusive interview for tomorrow’s matchday programme.

The 21-year-old provided a stunning assist for Alejandro Garnacho to score our decisive goal at Wrexham in the previous round as he made his first appearance since pre-season, and admits it was a special feeling to be back out there again.

‘It was very nice, very nice, because it was a long time that I was injured,’ he says. ‘So when I had the opportunity to be on the bench – and then to come on – it was a very good moment for me.

'I just want to be playing, so even to be on the bench with my team-mates again was a very good feeling, you know, and we wanted to win, so we needed this goal and to provide the assist made me very, very happy.’

Elsewhere, we unearth an unexpected family connection between a current Chelsea season ticket holder and our last competitive game against Port Vale at Stamford Bridge. Plus, we get a sneak preview of a new book about the club’s third-choice goalkeepers and the unique role they play, as Nick Colgan speaks to Rupert Cane about his time here.

We also pay tribute to the late Tony Godden, and celebrate the fundraising efforts of our supporters, while our regular Over Land & Sea feature takes a look at the impact of Irish players at Chelsea down the years.
