Reece James reflects on reaching the 200-appearance milestone for Chelsea in the matchday programme for Saturday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Blues skipper was in good form as he sat down to discuss all that has happened since he scored on his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town in September 2019.
'It’s a dream for me to play 200 games for the club I’ve supported since I was a little boy, and hopefully I can continue to get many more,' he says.
'When I was young, it was just about one day at a time, not looking too far ahead, and if you give everything each day then, if the opportunity came, I would be ready to try and take it.
'I tried to learn as much as I could because there were so many more experienced players in the team. Obviously, Azpi being the captain at the time, I was playing in the same position, so I tried to learn lots from him while he was here.'
In a wide-ranging programme exclusive, James also reflects on his trophy success with Chelsea and talks about his confidence in the current squad to go on and achieve great things.
'We’re in a great position at the moment,' he says. 'Over the past few years, it's obviously changed, things have adapted, new people have come in – different members of staff, a much younger team.
'But I think the last season speaks for itself about how far we've come and where we're trying to go, what we're going to achieve. I think, with time, everything will only get stronger and better.'
There is a special cover to this weekend’s programme as we play on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, and inside we detail the ways in which the club will mark the occasion on matchday, as well as looking at the Truce Project undertaken by our Academy’s Under-12s this year.
This month also marks the 80th anniversary of Moscow Dynamo’s historic visit to west London for a game played in front of Stamford Bridge’s biggest-ever crowd – and we’ve got a selection of incredible images from that remarkable day, taken from a special souvenir photo album produced by the club’s board.
The piece is an excerpt from Rick Glanvill’s new Book, Chelsea FC: The Official History, the most comprehensive illustrated history of the club ever published.
We celebrate the selection of Cole Palmer into the FIFPRO World XI and the induction of Eden Hazard into the Premier League Hall of Fame, while our ‘Over Land & Sea’ feature takes a look at the impact of Australians on Chelsea’s history, with a particular focus on Sam Kerr.
