Reece James fulfilled another childhood dream by lifting the Club World Cup trophy as Chelsea captain, and the Blues Academy graduate is immensely proud of what has been achieved this season.

Taking on Paris Saint-Germain, who won the Champions League in May, was always likely to bring out the best of Enzo Maresca's side. And that more than proved the case at MetLife Stadium as we produced an outstanding performance.

Cole Palmer broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a well-placed finish into the far corner, and then repeated the trick on the half-hour mark. Yet the Blues were not done, and Joao Pedro made it 3-0 before the half-time interval.

The Blues didn't look like surrendering our lead from that point on; our victory and the final scoreline were more than deserved.

James, a boyhood Chelsea supporter who began training in our Academy at six years old, was overjoyed after lifting the trophy.

‘This is what I’ve dreamt of my entire life,’ he said. ‘From a little boy, lifting trophies for this club was my dream.

‘It’s a great moment. It’s a huge tournament and so many of the best teams in the world competed for the trophy, but we managed to get our hands on it. It was an amazing feeling to lift it on a stage like this. With friends and family, it’s just amazing.’

James knew we would experience tough moments against the European champions, but the Blues skipper was pleased with how we dealt with Paris Saint-Germain's many qualities.

He continued: ‘We knew the game would be tough, and we knew there would be spells where we didn’t have the ball, but we had to work as a team and stick together.

'We scored three goals, and it’s an amazing feeling. It was an amazing game.’
