Chelsea Women’s Guro Reiten and Fran Kirby have been nominated for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month award for December, after respective influential roles in our victories over Leicester City and Reading last month.
We produced a ruthless attacking showing against Leicester City in our first league game of December, securing a goal difference boosting 8-0 victory in the East Midlands. One week later, we withstood a second-half fightback from Reading to earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Kingsmeadow to see out 2022.
Reiten has enjoyed a fantastic season thus far, she came off the bench as a second-half substitute against Reading but is nominated for her spellbinding performance against Leicester. The Norwegian opened the scoring inside four minutes before going on to assist each of our four other first-half goals.
As for Kirby, she has shown versatility and quality in different positions on the pitch. She bagged two goals and one assist from midfield against Leicester, before netting the opening goal against Reading where she dominated the wide areas and was a constant source of creativity.
Our Blues will go up against Manchester United’s Ona Batlle and Leah Galton, Vivianne Miedema of Arsenal, Laura Coombs of Manchester City and Emily Ramsey of Everton, with the winner to be announced in due course.
Voting for Player of the Month is now open and the vote will close at 10am on Friday 6 January.
