The Royal British Legion raises money to support serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

Before the match, 50 troops will be outside Stamford Bridge to collect donations before watching the game as our guests, on top of the 50 seats given to Tickets for Troops at every home game.

Connor Lockett, aged 18, whose father Sergeant Michael Lockett MC died in Afghanistan, will be our guest in the Directors' Box for the 11th year in a row, along with his mother Natalie.

This year we will once again wear special-edition shirts embroidered with a poppy. All shirts will then be signed and donated to the Legion for auction after the game. Chelsea FC Women also wore the poppy on their shirt for last weekend’s game with Lewes in the Continental Cup.

Prior to kick-off additional military personnel will be at Stamford Bridge for a private tour of the stadium with a club legend. Following this they will place a Remembrance banner on the centre circle and help with the on-field display of the words ‘Chelsea Remembers’.

A minute's silence will also be held just prior to kick-off with two Chelsea Pensioners joining the players and match officials on the pitch having led out the teams.

Manager Frank Lampard said: ‘It’s our dedicated game to the Poppy Appeal on Saturday, ahead of Remembrance Day on Monday.

‘It’s very important that we take this opportunity to salute everyone that has served and is serving in our armed forces, and that we respect the memory of those who have lost their lives in conflict, which we will do with a minute’s silence before kick-off.’

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta added: ‘To mark Remembrance Day we are wearing poppies on our shirts against Crystal Palace and we are honoured to be going out onto the pitch with Chelsea Pensioners and members of the armed forces before the game.

‘It is important for all of us that we never forget those people who lost their lives in war and we show our respect.’

At half-time we will be hosting a penalty shoot-out featuring four members of the military and four of our Junior Blues with mascots Stamford and Bridget taking turns in goal.

The Legion is the nation's biggest Armed Forces charity, providing care and support for all members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families.

The poppy and the work of the Legion are often associated with the First and Second World Wars and elderly veterans, however the charity is calling on the public to reconsider what the poppy stands for and wear it in support of the armed forces community, past and present.

This money will help the Legion offer support in many ways including providing crisis grants, researching the long-lasting impact of blast injuries on the body, lobbying the government on issues that affect our community, sport- and art-based recovery programmes and advising on benefits and money problems.

Fans can help the appeal by donating money to the service men and women collecting around Stamford Bridge, and the club is also donating half of the proceeds from the matchday raffle to the Royal British Legion.
