Chelsea Women’s Under-18s made a superb start to their senior Women’s National League Cup campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory away at Wycombe Wanderers Women

Chelsea N'Drin opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the half-hour and the Blues then struck five times after the interval, as Tess Finn, N'Drin again, Carla Gardiner, Maisie Brickell and Rebekah Pierce also found the net.

Leanne Champ's side created a host of chances and dealt impressively with the physicality of their senior opponents, combining sharp transition play with composed finishing while keeping a clean sheet.

Breakthrough from the spot

Chelsea were made to work for the opening goal by a physical Wycombe side, but our youngsters continued to create chances and our positive play down the right was rewarded after 30 minutes.

Gabi Storey, Keira Johnson and Brickell combined before the latter drove into the penalty area. Brickell skipped beyond three Wycombe players and was eventually brought down, leaving the referee to point to the spot.

N'Drin stepped up and converted with power and placement into the corner, giving Chelsea a deserved lead that we carried into the interval.

The Blues resumed with real purpose and doubled the advantage two minutes into the second half. Storey and Johnson combined on the right, with the latter delivering a low cross into the area. N'Drin's first effort was blocked, but Jahyma Putman recovered possession and spun before finding Finn on the edge of the box. The midfielder drove forward and finished across goal.

Chelsea's reaction to a Wycombe throw-in brought the third goal on 57 minutes. Brickell won the first contact high up the pitch and Johnson controlled the ball before turning and releasing N'Drin on the right side of the area. The forward spotted the goalkeeper advancing from her line and produced a composed chip to claim her second goal.

Substitutes make their mark

Gardiner was introduced in place of N'Drin after 65 minutes and needed only one minute to make an impact. Patient build-up play was recycled to goalkeeper Freya Weeks, whose long diagonal pass cleared the Wycombe defence and found Putman. Her early cross was met first time by the arriving Gardiner to make it 4-0.

Chelsea added a fifth on 81 minutes after reacting quickly to regain possession in the middle third. Gardiner found Pierce on the left and the substitute drove inside before playing through Wycombe's defensive line for Brickell, who supplied a composed finish.

There was still time for one final goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Chelsea won the first and second balls from a long Wycombe goal-kick, allowing captain Belle Sullivan to combine with Finn in midfield. Finn passed into Pierce's forward run and the substitute advanced into space before sending a superb long-range finish dipping beneath the crossbar.
