Liam Rosenior says there is no defensive midfielder in world football he would prefer to have over Moises Caicedo.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in August 2023 from Brighton and Hove Albion, the Ecuador international has established himself as one of the game’s standout midfielders.
Caicedo played an important role in our UEFA Conference League win last term, including scoring in the final over Real Betis, and was pivotal as the Blues lifted the Club World Cup last summer.
It came as no surprise that he was named our Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season for 2024/25 and the 24-year-old has remained a consistent presence in the Chelsea midfield this campaign too, while he has featured in four of Rosenior’s five matches in charge.
Caicedo undertook pre-match press conference duties alongside our head coach ahead of our Champions League clash with Napoli this evening, and Rosenior was effusive in his praise of the man sitting to his left.
He said: 'In my opinion, as a defensive midfield player, I wouldn't want to sit next to anybody else in world football. That’s what I think of Moi; he knows that as I’ve told him.
‘I have a background at Brighton, so I know everything about his career. The scary thing is that yes, he is young, but he sometimes plays like he is 35 years old because his understanding of the game is top.
‘For me, one of the most exciting things about coming to this club was to work with players of Moi’s level and capacity, but also try to help improve even more, which I think is achievable.’
