The good performances of Jorrel Hato have been one of the plus points for the Blues of late, and Liam Rosenior has explained why the ‘sky is the limit’ for the young Dutchman.

Hato has started four of our past six games in all competitions and has caught the eye with his positional discipline, defensive fortitude and ball-carrying abilities.

He only turned 20 at the start of this month and it is clear he is finding his feet at Stamford Bridge having joined from Ajax ahead of the season. Hato’s work in training and in games has left a clear mark on Rosenior, too.

‘In my time, he's been magnificent,’ the head coach said in the build-up to this weekend's game at Everton.

‘I've been so impressed with his temperament, his physicality, technically. He is a joy to work with every day, and at his age, it’s scary how good he could be.

‘It takes time. He's a young player that came through at Ajax, who captained Ajax at 17 years old. He then joins a massive club in a different league, in a different culture, and it takes time to bed in.

‘In terms of what's happened before me, there are loads of different contextual things that can affect a player's performance, but in my time with Jorrel, he's earned my trust, he's earned the staff's trust, and he's a very, very exciting player.’

Hato has been deployed at both centre-half and left-back since signing for the Blues, and he is regularly encouraged to invert and bolster our options in the middle and final third of the pitch.

A journalist questioned whether this versatility could be a hindrance for Hato but Rosenior believes the defender's football schooling will only benefit him as his career progresses.

‘I think he could play pretty much any position on the pitch, which normally Ajax-educated players can do,' Rosenior responded.

‘If he stays with his temperament and keeps improving at this rate, the sky's the limit for him.’
