Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed the hilarious first nickname he was handed as a youngster, and he couldn’t help but laugh when recalling it in an interview with The 5th Stand app!
The midfielder, who is currently working hard at returning to full fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, spoke to our official app as part of the ongoing exclusive series, Footballing Firsts.
One of the questions put to Ruben asked him what his first-ever nickname was and his response was priceless!
‘You’ll laugh at this but I was called ‘Cheeky’!’ Ruben joked.
‘That was genuinely my nickname when I was younger. I'd like to say it was because of my surname, rather than my personality being cheeky, but you never know!’
The midfielder also spoke about the first football team he played for before joining Chelsea and where he first saw a live game.
‘That was actually at The Valley, as I went to watch Charlton,’ continued Loftus-Cheek. ‘I can’t remember who they played, or how the game finished though!
‘My friend's dad was a season ticket holder and often they would have spare tickets, so I'd sometimes go along.’
The exclusive interview with Ruben can be read in full on The 5th Stand app now.
