With two goals and four assists to her name this season, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd discusses her growing role at Chelsea ahead of a reunion with former club BK Hacken in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this evening.

Having joined the Blues from Hacken last summer, the 26-year-old is embarking on her second campaign in west London.

And with every opportunity afforded to her by manager Emma Hayes, Rytting Kaneryd has grown in confidence, something reflected in her tally of goals and assists so far this term.

The Sweden international netted her first goal of the season in our 6-0 league victory over Aston Villa in November, and her second came against Arsenal on Sunday. A clinical and creative instinct has emerged, although it's something Hacken will know all about.

Getting minutes under her belt has been vital for Rytting Kaneryd, and although there have been tough moments on her journey since arriving at Chelsea, she is constantly taking steps in the right direction and is enjoying her football.

She says: ‘It was a challenge in the beginning, of course, but then I felt like the more I could play, the more I came into everything and was able to play my game.

'To be part of goals and assists is a nice feeling, and I feel like I’m taking steps every day. My role is pretty clear here and I’m enjoying it.’

We return to Stamford Bridge tonight for our second home match of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group phase. Rytting Kaneryd has described the emotions that come with playing at the Bridge and the fantastic backing we receive from our fans.

We want to win every game anyway, but these ones were at home, on our pitch, and it’s really important,' she explains. This is how it is. And it’s at Stamford Bridge, where we are playing so many games now.

‘It’s special to play here and it’s another thing that I’m really happy about. Our fans are always incredible, wherever we play.’

Hacken lead the way in Group D ahead of tonight's match and have been something of a surprise package, at least to those outside of Swedish football. However, Rytting Kaneryd was always confident her former club would rise to the occasion.

She says: ‘I got the question before the Champions League started: “Which team is going to surprise people this year?” I said that BK Hacken is one of the teams that I think will be a surprise, because I was playing at that club and it’s the best one in Sweden, really professional.

‘They have a lot of young talents, really interesting players to watch, and I’m not surprised that they’re two out of two so far.’
