Sam Kerr will bring the curtain down on her wonderful Chelsea career at Stamford Bridge tomorrow (Saturday), and the striker believes it is ‘fitting’ our opposition are Manchester United as she bids to become our women's team's all-time leading goalscorer.

Kerr has confirmed she will be leaving the Blues when her contract expires this summer, and looking back, it is clear she has no shortage of incredible memories to draw upon from her six years at the club.

There have been trophies and goals galore, with records set and lifelong friendships created. And any list of the Australian's very best moments in blue would no doubt feature Manchester United.

There are two that stand out above the rest: Kerr’s brace that sealed a famous comeback at Kingsmeadow in May 2022 and with it, the WSL title, and then the following year, in front of a world record crowd at Wembley Stadium, the only goal she netted to win the FA Cup.

‘It's kind of fitting playing Man United,’ smiled Kerr. ‘They’re a team that we've had so many great memories together against, and hopefully we can continue to do that and have a win at the weekend to send me off.

‘For me, it's just about having fun one last time. I don't want to make it sad. We've shared so many great memories together, and I just want to remember the good times.’

It is not lost on Kerr that her 115 goals for the club mean she currently sits just one behind Fran Kirby in the all-time list of Chelsea scorers. A brace at the Bridge would send her clear at the top.

‘That’s what I love doing - breaking records and scoring goals,’ said Kerr. ‘So of course, I have my eye on it, but to be a part of Chelsea's history is something that I'll be forever proud of and it means a lot.'

Kerr already holds the record for the most goals scored by a Chelsea player in the Women’s Super League after netting number 64 against Leicester City earlier this month.

With her Blues career approaching its end, she can start reflecting on the magnitude of the milestones such as those she has carved out.

'I've worked tirelessly during my whole career for things like this and sacrificed so much, given up so much to achieve as much as I can in my life and my career. ‘I think it's pretty special, especially to do it at a club I love so much.'

Now we wait to see if she can break one last record before she waves goodbye.
