Robert Sanchez has been included among the nominees for September’s Premier League Save of the Month award.
Our Spanish goalkeeper has been named among the six nominees for the top flight’s best save during September for one of two impressive stops he made in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in our last league game of that month.
Although the match ultimately ended in a loss, there was no diminishing the quality of the saves Robert Sanchez produced with the scores level to keep it goalless, preventing first Lucas Digne and then Nicolo Zaniolo from opening the scoring.
It was the second of those saves which has earned him a place among the nominees, when Sanchez showed lightning-fast reactions and a strong hand to deny the Italian. It came from a set-piece and when Boubacar Kamara headed the Villa corner back into danger and found Zaniolo eight yards out, the Blues feared the worst, but our goalkeeper did brilliantly to tip his powerful close-range volley over the bar.
Sanchez is joined on the shortlist for the Premier League Save of the Month award, which is now in its second season, by Jordan Pickford (Everton), Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham Hotspur), Ederson (Manchester City), David Raya (Arsenal) and Alisson (Liverpool).
The recipient of the award is decided by a public poll and you can cast your vote for Sanchez here until midday on Monday 9 October. The winner will be then revealed at 2pm on Friday 13 October.
